Pentucket Kiwanis - Donna's Team: 20 Years and still going strong!
Every member of Pentucket Kiwanis - Donna's Team has been affected by cancer in some way, and each of us wants to make a difference, so we're back at the NECC track. After 20 years, what makes us continue?
CELEBRATE! The American Cancer Society's Relay For Life is a life-affirming event. When someone who is newly-diagnosed hears the survivorship numbers - 5 years, 10 years, 20 years, they begin to believe that they, too can beat this disease. The Survivor's Lap is a celebration of life! Another lap means another year.
REMEMBER!The luminaria ceremony remembers our family and friends who have left us much too soon. Although Cancer has taken them away, we remember them.We light candles in their memory. Our teams continue to walk all through the night. It is beautiful to see the candles illuminatethe quarter-mile track, guiding our way around. The candles on the hill change from the word "HOPE" to the word "CURE". The names and pictures on the luminarias are glowing from the flickering candlelight. We walk , we remember.
FIGHT BACK !The American Cancer Society (ACS) funds cancer research. A cancer diagnosis is no longer an automatic death sentence. With the strides made in care and treatments, survivorship is growing. But the number of people we know who are diagnosed with cancer is growing too - it's everywhere, it seems!
We want to continue the research until a cure is found. CANCER HASN'T GIVEN UP. NEITHER WILL WE.
The Relay For Life is is Haverhill's most fun and most touching fundraising event- EVER. So if you haven't seen a Relay in action, come down to the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life of Haverhill, on June 8th and 9th. We promise you, you will be amazed.
